A Royal Garden Party: An Intimate Encounter with the King
The invitation to a garden party at Buckingham Palace is an extraordinary experience, and my recent attendance at the King's Trust 50th birthday celebration was no exception. The King's personal involvement in ensuring our enjoyment was remarkable, as he took the time to check that I and HELLO!'s magazine editor, Jessica Callan, had enjoyed enough tea in the back garden.
The event was a spectacular display of British tradition and politeness. From the moment we arrived, we were immersed in the pomp and ceremony that the royal family is renowned for. The great British weather, with its threats of rain, only added to the excitement and anticipation as we lined up to show our tickets among a sea of ladies in hats and gentlemen in suits.

The balcony where King George and Winston Churchill addressed the crowds on VE Day came to mind, as well as the countless other moments of joy and history that have taken place within those walls. The gardens at the back of the palace, usually private, offered a glimpse into a world of royal tradition and celebration.
The tea tent, with its elegant and understated setup, was a marvel of British politeness and queueing. The brass band's performance, the National Anthem, and the King's graceful entrance created an atmosphere of pure celebration and wonder. The King's dedication to meeting and greeting as many people as possible was breathtaking, and his ability to make everyone feel important was truly remarkable.
The guest list was a who's who of famous faces, including music legends Rod Stewart and Brian May, Damian Lewis, Dame Helen Mirren, and Geri Halliwell. The King's stamina and kindness were on full display as he engaged with everyone, from the famous to the not-so-famous, ensuring that everyone felt special.

As I looked out across the lawn, I imagined the Wales children playing hide and seek, and the young Harry and William running around with their mother, Diana.
